                                    Confirmed date for 2009;

Saturday May 2nd

 The organisers of the Tour of Britain cycle race must have heard how good the Drumlanrig challange route is. They have included our first half at the end of their stage seven and decided to finish the stage in the spectacular setting that is our base. So the Drumlanrig challange now includes an official catagory one climb on the pro circuit.

For 2009 I am  sending you round the second loop in the reverse direction. This means you will go up the "mini hardnott" climb which was so scary comeing down

Also new for 2009 will be an untimed "tea and cakes" ride in the afternoon; 12 miles from Drumlanrig to Dunscore to join the full distance riders in the final feed of the day, then ride back.

The route takes you from the Castle up to the highest village in Scotland taking in some of the region's most breathtaking views and past the very Smithy where the world's first pedal cycle was invented.

Official Photographer announced.

We are proud to announce that we have teamed up with professional event photographer Paul Almond who will be taking shots of everyone around the route and have them on his website within a short time after the finish. See more of his work  HERE  Event pictures will appear on THIS link

There will be the option of just doing one half of the route and we retain the unique feature of timing each half seperately, so you can enjoy a relaxing lunch and a natter at the halfway feed.

For the 84 mile challenge the following standards will apply:

Gold Under  4hrs 31 mins

Silver under 5 hrs 31 mins

Bronze over 5hrs 31 mins

Find out about the high point of the ride here  http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/wanlockhead/wanlockhead/index.html

Event Insurance by Cyclosport.org

We seek to improve where we can. Please use the "Enquiry" button to offer any comments. All comments will be taken as positive so please don't be afraid of upsetting us by seeming critical .

One change for 2009 will be that on the second loop, you will turn left at the castle (as some did in 2008!!) , but after a couple of miles you will go up the hill you came down (or should have) near the end of the ride in 2008. At the end of the ride you will enter the castle via the rear entrance just like 2007 but finishing before the car park.

Entry to this event is by donation to Tearfund.  Tearfund is a Christian relief and development charity. Their vision is to transform the lives of millions of the world’s poorest people, in a positive and sustainable way, not just by helping to meet basic physical needs, like providing fresh water, sanitation and healthcare. When people are living in extreme poverty, hope is every bit as essential as food and water. That’s why Tearfund are committed to the principle of integral mission. That means giving practical help alongside hope, through emotional and spiritual support. Helping those in need regardless of race, gender or religion. Tearfund rely on individuals and churches for 65 per cent of their income. And with just eight per cent of donations spent on fundraising and publicity, you can rest assured that your support reaches those who need it most.

Tearfund are working throughout Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe.
